Western Mass Foreclosure Report: Hampden County 2026

Updated September 2026. Every month we count the foreclosure notices recorded at the Hampden County Registry of Deeds and break them down by town. In Massachusetts, a lender’s “Order of Notice” is the first public step toward a foreclosure sale, so it is the earliest reliable signal of how many homeowners are in trouble. Homeowners, reporters and town officials are welcome to use these numbers; please credit and link to this page.

What an Order of Notice means for a homeowner

An Order of Notice comes from the Massachusetts Land Court under the federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. The lender must file it before it can sell the house, and it is recorded at the registry. It does not mean the house has been sold, and many owners catch up, refinance, modify the loan or sell first. Massachusetts law gives owner-occupants a 150-day right-to-cure period before acceleration in many cases. Free help is available from HUD-approved housing counselors and from MassLegalHelp.
